    Can it be done?

    Not is it practical

Can the front air suspension from say a D3/4 be fitted to the front of a DIIa?.

I'm not worried about anything but the physical fitment, if anybody has done the job and can provide some advice that would be very welcome.

Likewise anyone with proof that it cannot be done might save me some heartache.

    Cheers all

Would be easier to fit P38 (Solid axle) front air suspension than D3//4 (Independent suspension).

I know that's not what you asked.

I was going to say the same. A far better (mechanically) fitment would be the P38 or RRC air springs and then you just need to relocate the shock which would be far simpler. There are kits to move classic shocks to the front, but I'm not sure if that would interfere with the sway bars on a D2, but rearward would no doubt be a similar exercise.

BUT, without having one in front of me, it looks like a D3/4 spring/shock assembly would also be a really interesting and potentially straight forward conversion.

How would u control them? Would u have to add an aftermarket processor/bcu to run all 4 airbags or would you run the front 2 on a seperate system than the back?

That question may be answered in the D4 forum,,
I'm not sure where the later D's get their ride height from,,

The D3/4 use a small rotary sensor connected to a rod which connects to the upper suspension arm. You can buy all those bits, but then you will need to write something that manages it all.

Then you have things like crossover valves and the like.

Anything is possible these days with arduino's and rasberry pi's but it sounds like a lot of effort!

Would pump up shocks fit? might be an easier way.

So by going D3/4 you wanting air suspension on the front or independent suspension or both?

If wanting adjustable suspension then why not consider US style pneumatic suspension - available as kits from the US.

If independent - huge changes to the D2 front chassis will be required to bolt the upper and lower control arms up.

Anything is possible but the question is - is it worth it?

Given the low cost of a D2 vs the high cost of the modification will still result in a low cost D2 for no real benefit.
