    D2a Complete Electric Failure

I have an annoying and perplexing electrical problem at the moment. 2004 TD5 hitched up to the trailer yesterday and when I went to start up, everything electrical switched on as per usual, but only momentarily. Then everything cut out after only about 1.5 seconds. By everything, I mean everything.... I can't even operate things like the hazard lights and the odometer screen is blank. Nothing happens at all at any key position. Battery is good (12.5volts), all fusable links in the engine compartment fuse box are being supplied with current and have continuity. I've also tested all fuses for continuity - all good. There is just nothing obvious (to my mind) that is wrong.

All I can think of is that it is some kind of electrical immobilisation as a part of the security set up but I cant find anything on RAVE about it... The only other alternative I can think of is that it is a relay that cuts power to all-else when the starter is engaged and somehow it is faulted.

I'll keep following looms and poking the multimeter around but I thought I'd at least try to start a conversation about it! I'll update with anything else I find....

    Any assistance would be appreciated!

Long shot, but have a look at your battery earth lead ensure it is getting good contacts.

    Problem Solved! Earth Strap....

Sorry to generate alarm - The solution was right in front of me all along. While I was busily chasing a fault down the positive side of the system, the fault was on the earth side of things...

I only thought to check it after I just read another post about ensuring continuity on all earth straps... Stuffed if I know how it came so loose but hey, I'm back motoring again.

    Thanks to all!
