    D2A RHR Tail light fault

I have an odd fault in the RHR upper tail light

I thought the bulb had blown and someone jokingly said to give it a Fonzy style whack

I did and blow me down it worked

But now it doesn't , unless I whack it

What the heck is wrong with it

I took the lense off and removed the bulb

Sprayed the base with contact cleaner and the electrical joiner

Put it back together and hey presto it worked

    Now it doesn't , again

Is it an earth problem or sopmething ?

    Thanks

    Pete

watch the metal segments where the arrow shows, they used to get loosened and the contact in the plug becomes weak, push them and if the bulb comes on then the problem is there, inspect the plug's contacts too

Sometimes the filament in the globe is broken and flicking or hit it is enough to weld it back together and the when you turn it off it pulls apart again. Start with the simple things first, change out the globe.

I have the same issue with my LHS rear tail light. I've changed the globe and at the same time disconnect and reconnected the connector. It worked again for about 1/2 a day.

It must be a connection issue inside the light assembly but have not pulled it off to check. I'd bet it is what sierrafery mentioned.

Its jumping the gap in the filament

Yeah I think when you are hitting it, its making the filament wiggle and join for a sec then its jumping the gap from there
But its defensively blown new globe is the way to go

Check for corrosion around the socket
Or do you have one of my past issues where the diff lock light is on? All the rear instruments share a common positive

    to check the globe

Seeing as I grew up yesteryear if we had a globe that didn't work but looked OK just give it a light (no pun intended) flick with a finger nail, if it has a broken filament you will see the filament quiver.

    Cheers

I had this problem caused by a trailer with a dogey light earthing, if the fuse keeps blowing and the RHF clearence light is out as well that will probably be your problem
