Good info. Cheers.
I noticed an oil leak at the front of my engine after I the head gaskets and sump gasket was replaced so I assumed it was the front mainseal and went to Whyatt's in Geraldton to book it in to be fixed.
Luckily I rocked up at the workshop when there was an unusual lull so I got the truck looked at straight away.
The Mainseal was perfect with no leaks and so was the oil pump gasket, The culprit was a small "O" ring on a blanking plug on top of the oil pump, It had gone rock hard and it shattered between my fingers.
So if you have a leak that is dribbling down the oil filter on your V8 have a look at that particular "O" ring as it could be the culprit and is a simple and easy fix![]()

Same thing (almost) with first a small leak and then oil dribbling out. The engine had just been rebuilt (the sloppy sleeve problem) so I was freaking, but climbed underneath and discovered that blanking plug was finger tight.. so oil was pouring out. Obviously someone forgot to tighten it during assembly. Oil level well down and could have ended up in disaster, but I was lucky. I tightened the plug, but it felt "cushion-ey" so I assume it was tightening against an O-ring... and you have confirmed it. I must find out how much to tighten without distorting the ring. Hmmm. The hole that is plugged is for an oil cooler to be fitted.
