OK fellas, Mod hat on. After a bit of discussion this thread has been put back. Some of the previous posts are not helpful and we the mods would appreciate if you can keep this on track with the OP's question.

I am a bit of a KISS principle type of operator so I prefer big multi-strand cables & well crimped connections.

I have question about DCDC chargers however. How does the DCDC device know where it is in the charge cycle given the stop start nature of vehicle based charging?

Tim the cable was free and the DC was at wholesale cost. I wont continue the squabbling in the interests of keeping the thread on the board. Thanks.

If I had received that, I would have assumed it came from someone in sales. The best thing to do would be to post a follow up query asking for a "fact and data" sheet from Century that explains the response they gave. Then you may have some balance. You have none now on this topic. Not your fault, nor is it anyone else's.

If the mods will allow, I would add: Anyone who saw a personal attack in anything posted here might consider adjusting their sensitivity filter. All I have seen is robust debate.

Most of the personal comments have been deleted by mods so no you won't see them...
I didnt assume it came from a tech. You assumed that I assumed...

It either came from a tech or from a person who knows the view of the company on such things. What amazes me is how quick some people are to find potential fault in responses from the battery companies (ie not sellers of DC2DC chargers...). Why not start from the view that an official response via email is their position informed by the company's technical research and collective knowledge?

I don't have anything to prove (I don't sell DC2DC chargers...others here largely sell alternator based charging systems and may therefore have a certain view...all good). I have put up my view. Others have put up theirs. I have posted up replies from battery companies that most people might find at least some value in...some people will continue to insist they have no value. Fine.

People can make their own inquiries. I don't care frankly. But when this subject comes up next time I will refer people to battery makers and suggest they ask them for recommendations on charging systems.

And you assume that I have not been following this thread since it began, and around and around we go.

I still say the best way to illustrate what you were trying to say would be to post a proper response, with data sheets, from the battery companies. If you choose not to, fine. However, lots of folk here have Traxide stuff, and it seems to work, so you can see why they tend to stick with him...

As for Century, I paid quite a lot for a large cranking battery from them. I returned it to the chain I bought it from after 9 months when it failed, and the staff just said "not another one"... Maybe a bad batch. Bus company I used to work for swore by them, but hey, times change.

Note: nothing personal here. In fact, I enjoy most of your posts.

Apart from CA, is there another 'unmoderated' section? I love a good cage fight, as long as there is no blood. CA is pointless. Left/right is SO boring. How about a "freeforall" section, inc? Just kidding.... Really.

    +1.

1 Century 4WD Extra Heavy Duty .. etc, etc, as the starter for D1
(one week later) 1 Repco branded (same sized as the above Century starter), used as the Aux in D1.
(same week) 1 Repco branded battery for my D2(v8) project.

D2 battery cops the most abuse in terms of discharging and length of time between charges.
D1 Aux has copped a bit less abuse(discharge cycles running chiller to below 10v(no cutout, except the chiller finally stops).
D1 starter .. is treated as every other starter battery with it's regular dosage of 14.4v every day till it doesn't need any more .. ie. kid gloves.

One guess as to which battery has started slowly dying in the past week or two!
