    Td5 Disco 2 oil 15w40?

Hi guys, I have only had my disco 6 months. My first service I sent it to Ricks on the goldy so he could have a check over. It is coming up to next service (180k) and i asked them what oil they used and they said a 15w40 semi synthetic. Is this the norm with an older diesel? The manual says it should be 5w30?

Too bad, that's not even a listed option for the Td5

+1 for the 5W... even better if it's dedicated for PD/EUI engines

An xW-40 is fine, and I'd go for an SAE40 over an SAE30 in Australia, particularly in summer.

Whatever Ricks use will be ok, most all people don't understand the SAE viscosity ranges.
In Australia, particularly in summer at higher latitudes there will be no difference in pumping pressures at start up between a 0W and 15W-40.

I use full synthetic 10w-40 as the land rover book is European specifications and in Australia and our warmer climate some oils recommend are not really suitable hear my line of though may be wrong but to date has served me well.

At operating temps there is no difference in viscosity between a 0, 5, 10 and 15W-40.

It's only at sub zero temps we see an appreciable difference in pumping pressures at start up.

Thanks guys, Im in brissy, usually hotter temps so it makes sense. Good to know there is such an active disco community!

IMO that's not 100% correct, i compared many data sheets and there are differencies, for example Penrite semi synth 5W40 has lower kinemaric viscosity at 100*C than the 10W40 and much higher viscosity index(so it's more stabile)
