    Chasing my tail, 1999 td5 discovery auto. no power on hills/

    Situation. No power on hills, drops speed quickly struggles to pull. I have read numerous posts re this issue but i'm still stumped. Stall test shows max engine speed of 2100 on tacho. I have a new fuel pump fitted (genuine) , new fuel filter, exchanged the fuel reg, changed the small filter behind reg. Engine runs smooth no excessive smoke. starts first time with no hesitation. Drives fine on the flat. checked the injector codes on nano com, no faults found other then egr fault (egr removed) . serviced auto, . Bugged if i no what else to check . . There was oil in the ecu plug but cleaned. Could it be an ecu issue still ? .

    Boost controller?
    If it fails it cuts the fuel supply as it is sensing a boost overload.
    On the flat can you be gentle on acceleration and slowly accelerate to 100km? Then try it again by putting the boot into it and see if you get similar symptoms as you do going up hill.

    Have you cleaned the MAP/boost sensor?

    My bad, new boost controller fitted, MAF cleaned. Don't panic i have two td5s sitting at a mates place one of which i was driving till 3 weeks ago. So i have a good supply of working parts at this stage. As much as I love the Auto maybe i will have to resurrect the MANUAL .

    first of all replace the injector loom then cos only cleaning the oil is not enough beside that make sure that the wastegate is not sticking... an inputs fuelling data log would be relevant

    Further info

    Nanocom shows no fault in either the engine side or gearbox side. Can leaking injector seals give loss of power even though starting is fine. ??

    I had the same issue with my 2000 TD% auto and same as you danced around looking for the issue. In my case I found it was the inadequate torque converter used on the td5 auto. I installed an Ashcroft Converter, which is a modified V8 converter. Also came with a heavy duty flex plate. No more "flaring", just smooth shifting at much lower RPM. Although, td5 needs to have been chipped to use V8 converter effectively.
