    Front prop shaft gone again

the prop shaft from the gearbox to front axle has stuffed the uni joint again, the multi joint next the gear box, it did it about 20,000 ks ago and i replaced the whole shaft with a good second hand one and it has done the same, i know its not very accurate description, my Disco is on 2in lifters would this be a problem, or is this a common complaint with the disco 2, and where to get and what price to replace joint

Perhaps the "good second hand one" wasn't so good.

Id start with a good quality new prop shaft with greaseable uni`s before you think your lift or D2`s have a issue wearing shaft`s out

    What rangieman said!

Also, people don't realise that the OE GKN unis are a much stronger and better uni than a standard 1300 spec universal joint.
The trunions are 1310 uni size and you can buy greasable if that is your preference.

If you are concerned about that AC drain right above the DC joint, use a grease that uses a calcium sulfonate complex soap/thickener, (most specifications call for a lithium complex grease) it resists water washout and rust better than any other base, and my preference is a moly (MoS2) fortified grease as it will handle the point loading of the centering bearing better, although in theory moly grease shouldn't be used in needle roller bearings, some are ok in rolling element bearings, CAT market several.

The D2 DC is a 1300 size. I would upgrade to 1310 with greaasable. That basically solved the problems for me. Its a bigger stronger joint and it is servicable including the central bearing which is where I suspect the failures of these joints start.

See Tom Woods Shafts for an excellent replacement.

The lift may not be causing this problem But it certainly isn't helping it either.

Another vote for Tom Wood and no more problems. The Wood shaft Will give you long life. 2 inch is mild for that shaft.

    Cheers

Ps. For the off road and touring that I do including towing a tinny into inhospitable areas I would not go back to stock height.

The major thing i have found with a used and or worn T/Shaft is once you lift a car the shaft run`s on a different angle to standard .
This in turn makes for a unhappy worn uni running at a different angle and fails fairly quickly

Yep good point. Better to start with a new shaft and wear it at that angle. Cheers
