Checked the sway bar mounts and they are fine. But I had 3 persons and a trailer on and there was no untoward rolling. In fact it rode quite well. The height from the axle to the rubber bump stop is just on 100 mm. The manual says this is the off road height and normal height should be about 61mm. But the front has not been lifted at all, the car slopes to the front. So the rear springs have to go.
Finally after a lot of issues got the Donaldson 2" higher springs out and new air bags and shockers fitted on the rear. It made little difference. Perhaps a bit softer ride. The problems started when I re programmed the ECU for air bags and the compressor wouldn't work. Yes had all doors etc closed and pressed the height increase button. So bought a schrader valve and tube from Pertec and fitted them. The bags went down over night. Checked all the fittings, bags went down over night. So decided to check out the compressor. Took it out of the car it worked fine including all solenoids. Back in the car and cut the wires in the compressor and extended them to the step so that I could power the compressor/solenoids from my small booster battery. Pumped up with compressor and over night the right hand bag went flat. Investigation showed that the small silver metal fitting was out of shape inside and had sharp points which cut very small grooves in the pipe. So using the shank of a 4mm drill I took off the sharp points and made it round. Put the schrader valve directly in with a short pipe and the right bag has held. I'll reconnect the compressor to the right hand bag tomorrow and start chasing either a plug or ECU fault. All the fuses/links and relays are ok. This has been written down quickly but took hours in real time to do the work. Lucky I have a hoist makes working on the compressor easier.
Nice detective work,,,

You still havent written another description for----- rides like a boat

No sorry. Well sort of all of the above. HOWEVER, SWMBO has decided it is an improvement and she could go to Sydney or Melbourne without getting sick since I replaced the high lift springs with air bags and new shockers on the rear. I have new shockers for the front but haven't had a chance tp fit them yet. Also I haven't checked the ECU so give it more time and a few lots of greasy hands and then we'll see.![]()
Hi,
Generally, the rear shockies, if worn out, will give you up and down bounce when travelling, and worn out fronts will give wallowing and dipping into corners. At 115000klm's I'd think they would be at the end of their life.
LuckyLes
Thanks Luckyles that is what is happening fronts are stuffed. I have new shockers for the front I'll change them next week. Currently got grand kids for NSW school holidays and cannot get a good go at the car while they are here. Spend the time repairing Nerf guns and quad bikes and going to the go kart track. Finally the 12 year old can get better lap times than grand dad. But eventually ends up in the tyres. Slow and steady wins the race. Perhaps next year he'll win the race as well.
remember,, hard shocks and soft springs![]()
