Gotta take one out to do the other. Do 'em both.

Yeah, I replaced my old radiator with a new original one, because of coolant loss. At the same time I cleaned the intercooler. I have to be honest, just to see if I could do it. I did OK, took along time with much cursing, but I did it. And felt good about it. It is experiences like this that bonded me to my land rover, and now I feel I can't get rid of it, it is family. Much to the chagrin of my children, who have Toyota 4x4's. BUT, they will not take their vehicles on the beach, or down a muddy track. Not saying the Toyota's can't do it, have to say without modification, they are fairly ordinary 4x4's. Just my opinion.
I have owned heaps of different 4WD's, Several Toyota's and Nissans, a Jackaroo and a Daihatsu and Yes they were fairly Capable 4WD's But None of them have been as enjoyable to drive as my D2a.
Yes they were all ( Except the G60) more economical than the V8 Disco to run But they all lacked the same level of refinement and comfort of the Discovery.
I took every single one of my 4WD's off road and down the beach and they all got filthy and pinstriped from the bush and my Disco is No exception.
I can't understand why anyone would own a 4X4 and NOT take it Bush or to the beach, It pretty much defeats the purpose of owning one.
I'm looking forward to reading about you D2 referb project as it unfurls Mate[thumbsupbig]
When changing the rad and intercooler, i high recommend replacing the auto cooler hoses with new ones. The fittings onto the trans cooler are not a flash design and are easily damaged when removed, if they come off while driving you will risk transmission failure. (Been there done that... twice - lesson learned)
Check your ECU to see if it is the programmable one (NNN?) This way you don't need to replace it to have it chipped, just have the programmed flashed. (Flash Tune)
You're just an ol' hoon Bob. [biggrin]
Welcome to the rabbit hole!
dont buy the cheap ally rads on eBay.
Anyone I've spoken to with them has had cracks in them.
Allisport in the U.K. do both rads and intercooler upgrades.
Chip it, best bang for buck and makes it a joy to drive!
Once you start you won't stop....my nice stock D2 has now got a chip, CDL, bullbar, UHF, spotlights, and inserting a which shortly along with a pod full of gauges and I reckon new suspension won't be too far away...
My D2 has had a suspension upgrade + 2inch lift, [ which I did myself, courtesy of my mates hydraulic press, and spring clamps], bulbar, rear steel bar, UHF, Low water alarm, well tempered temp monitor, steering guard, CDL actuator, which I put in myself, I changed all coolant hoses myself, mongrel of a job. I still have the original computer, which can't be chipped. A computer upgrade is possible, with a chip, before that I hope to change the Radiator and intercooler, bearing in mind I believe the ECU has to be calibrated to the new rad & cooler. What's difficult is resisting the temptation to add bling , rather than something that aids performance.
