Thread: Suspension Lift, 2".

Bit of a bump so appologies. Didnt want to start a new thread unnecessarily.

Looking at lifting my d2, everyone I speak to says get a 2 inch lift.
I went into opposite lock and got a quote. They quoted me $1800 (installed) For tough dog foam cell kit which would give me a 35mm lift apprently. I asked why not 2 inch and he said somethimes it isnt possible to get the full 2inch.
So my question. is 35mm enough if I wanna put a decent size set of MT's on, or is it infact possible to get closer to 50mm?

I see alot of people on here saying they have dobionsons coils with bilstein shocks.

My thoughts are to stay away from foam cell shocks, they may be big in some cases but when they get hot they fade and don't recover - throw them in the bin. Foam cells shocks are like Tough Dog, Rancho etc. Stick with normal nitrogen twin shells (eg OME Nitrocharger, Koni, Monroe, the vast majority etc) which will fade and recover when they cool down again or if you want something that wont fade then look to monotube shocks (eg Bilstein etc).

My opinion is that if you're not sure, the best designed and sorted 2" suspension off the shelf complete kit is the Old Man Emu from ARB. It has options for intended loads front and rear and the shock lengths are exactly right for maxing everything out without needing modifications.

If you're going your own way... loads of spring options. Look at the Bilstein shocks - shocks will make it handle or not handle.

Also note that the Disco2 rear hub to guard measurments have them squatting a bit at the rear normally.

Also most 2" lifts wont give the full 2", but you may be able to shim a bit into it if you're after the full 2" - thats what I would do. When I ran King Springs the lift I think was 40mm front and 30mm rear, so I fitted 20mm shims on the rear to being it up to 50mm. It was good from there.

Perfect. thanks mate. it seems that what Opposite lock quoted me is probably their standard go to option. Ill check with ARB on the oldman.

I agree with Slunnie - avoid Foam cells.

And I’ll put this out there - a 2” (or any other height) lift on its own does *not* allow the fitting of larger tyres.

All it does it change the static height - if they run at normal height they will rub lifted when it flexes.

I've used on my own and customers vehicles for many a year, Terrafirma and have had very little issues. Considering the price range of the products, I have no issue. Both their coils and shocks are made all over the place depending on what ones. U.K, China, Thailand, Australia.

But if you are looking at something better, I'd go with Slunnie's recommendation any day. Check out his website and go through everything he has done to his D2

I have some Dobson rear 2 inch lift springs I have removed them and gone back to airbags. They are not old and still have paper label on them, also complete with bolts. If some one wants to pick them up you can have them for $20.

And the other thing to consider is all a generic 2" lift does is reduce your droop travel by 2"!

You'll be pulling wheels off the deck more quickly unless you sort the suspension properly.

How do you recalibrate this? Which OBD2 readers do it apart from Nanocom?
