How's that for economy? 9.6 L/100kms

A lot of people forget to compensate their lower odometer readings with bigger tyres when doing brim to brim calculations, any vehicle loaded with roof rack and extra wind resistance is going to use more fuel.
A v8 with rack and loaded the same as a td5 will still use 20-30% more fuel at highway speeds , more in city / off road conditions

That's good. My 2.4 Puma Defender six-speed with standard height and tyres and a flat roof rack does about 10 l/100ks, rising to 10.5-11.00 when towing our camper trailer. It likes to sit on 100 km/h, which is 2000 revs in sixth, on the highway.

Those figures i quoted was with nothing on the roof,only change from stock was 245/70/16 BFG A/T tyres.
Once i fitted a snorkel for the second Cape trip,fuel economy got worse,then a Greaeme Cooper power enhancement economy got worse again.

My D4 has never got as good fuel economy as any of the TD5's i had.
But it is a different driving experience[bighmmm][biggrin]
And worth the extra bit of fuel.[tonguewink]

The guy next door has a 70 series dual cab,brand new.It went to ARB,and i think they fitted everything that would fit on it.And a 2"lift.And massive tyres.And a hot exhaust.
So he puts it on the scales at the dump,3.2T empty.
Now he is complaining fuel economy is shocking,even without the 4 wheel builders trailer hooked up.....

9.6l per 100K's is but a pipe dream with my 4l V8 in my D2a.
I am happy with 15-16l per 100K's.

Hey Trout fully laden and roof rack with nothing in it on mine with lift, aggressive tyres etc is 13.5 per 100k on highway including hills etc (that is down to Sydney inland). Fully laden and with a fair bit of wind resistance on roof gear and Duratracs up north was 14 to 14.5 on highway. Happy with that for 4.6 (5 speed auto).

The D2 in either guise was so much better on fuel than TD and petrol in landcruiser etc of its era. Cheers

Mine is only a 4 speed auto, The extra gear in yours is probably why your consumption figures are better.

Hi mate. I don't know if final is higher. Is higher though with 31 inch tyres v 29.5 stock. The 4.6 has a lot more bottom end torque which is sweet all laden up.

Stock D2 TD5 auto with a snorkel i average low 11's mixed town/country, very happy with that for my non economic style of racing, i mean driving.
Just glad i don't pay the fuel card for the work patrol and it's nowhere as fun to drive!

Although modified, my Td5 uses about 13.5l/100km seemingly everywhere.
