D2a Alternator parts

Hi all,
Does anyone know where you can source a diode pack for the TD5 D2a alternator. Denso 100213-2530.
A few months over 2 years old and it has died. One year warranty...not happy !

Local repairers don't carry many parts for these, notably the diode pack.

Cheers, Bill

PS. My apologies if this post appears elsewhere.

Out of interest, how did you confirm it was the diode pack that had failed?

I'm surprised you haven't been able to source locally a replacement as it uses a lot of the same Denso components as many Toyota OEM alternators such as on the Land Cruiser UZJ100R V8. Although they're interchangeable there is some extra work with compatibility. Check out Td5 alternator for a discussion regarding the regulator differences on two or three wire connectors.

By diode pack, I think you are referring to what is often called the rectifier (as this has diodes in it), ie:

If all else failed, it can be easily sourced through eBay. Search for "TD5 rectifier" will give you results shipped from the UK. Search for "Denso rectifier" and scroll through to find the right one (or "Cruiser Denso rectifier") will give you Australian options such as Rectifier for DENSO 113MM LEXUS V8 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER Soarer 100A Alternator | eBay

We might as well take the opportunity to try and turn this thread into a complete reference for the replacement components from the alternator.

For slip rings check out:

I haven't been able to find a part number for the brush box, but can be easily found hrough searching 'TD5 brushbox' but generally the suppliers are overseas (mainly UK). If you search 'Denso brushbox' there are many identical looking units but unsure if there is a difference.

With the regulator you need to be careful. The LR OEM/genuine/original units only use 2 wires for the mutliplug connector, while some of the replacement units are the same as that used on Toyota Land Cruiers and use three. Fully compatible in the TD5, but you need to add the third wire to your multiplug in order to not have the alternator not charging warning light on your dash. Check out Td5 alternator for further discussion and details.

Apparently correct part numbers for the correct Land Rover 2 wire unit are:

IN249
Replaces: Denso 126000-2500
Unit Nos: Denso 100213-2391, 100213-2530, Landrover ERR6999
Lester Nos: 21369

So anyone know the details of the bearings used inside the
alternator? Must be the only other user replaceable component?

Thanks for info,

Luckily, when I replaced the Alternator end of 2015 I kept the old one - thinking...silly enough, I could rebuild it and keep it as a spare.
Should of done it at the time, now realizing I cant get spares locally and have to resort to importing them. Auto elects here used to repair them, but now they just fit new ones at big $$$$$$$

Anyhow, I removed the offending alternator, pulled it down and found one brush has worn the slip ring to the rotor shaft. Must of had a sticking brush causing arcing - so its rooted. Good quality control on Denso's behalf - not !

Thankfully the rotor and brushes in the old one are still serviceable and will grab the regulator too. Everything else on the new(er) one is ok.
Rebuild done, just got to fit it tomorrow and all should be sweet - I hope ;-)

With parts I have left over, the rotor is shot, the rectifier (diode pack) is shot, and not sure about the regulator.
Some of the most expensive parts to replace, if they could be sourced. Next alternator failure will probably result in the purchase of another new one....again.

BTW, bearing and seal sizes for the Denso 100213-2530 are;
Rear (slip ring end) 15 x 30 x 13 (bore x OD x width in mm)
Front (vacuum pump end) 17 x 40 x 12 (bore x OD x width in mm, Ashdown-Ingram Part # BEX-6203)
Seal 17 x 30 x 8 (mm) (Ashdown-Ingram part # BEX-1143)

Cheers, Bill

Mine died a bit before then. I took it to a big Auto Elec place in Dandenong and was told "it's the rectifier, and we can't get the parts". Hmmm.

I was under the impression that the D2 alternators were Bosch units, The one on my D2a that I repaired is.
Next alternator failure will probably result in the purchase of another new one....again.
Might depend on what causes the next failure as there's a large body of replacement part details above now to assist in repairing.

Saddened to hear about your early failure as I've just fitted a new Denso unit to my D2a TD5. The last one lasted 270,000 km and 16 years so I had hoped the new one would achieve similar life span... Hopefully you were just unlucky, or maybe it's better to use the $300.00 cheapie replacement alternators off eBay then and be prepared to replace more often?

Definitely Denso for the TD5 motor. Do the V8's use a Bosch unit instead?
