    Rear air bags

    Hi, just a quick question.
I am currently rebuilding the motor on my td5 discovery. My question is, if i leave the car sitting there with no air in the rear bags for a period of time, would it do any damage to them?

    Thanks in advance.

I can’t see how it’d be good. Could you chick it with a piece of wood or axle stands?

Shouldn't be a problem. They simply bottom out onto the bump stops. Of course you wouldn't want to drive it like that - it'd feel like a Hilux then

The instructions to my Airbag Man airbags say to keep at least 5 psi in them at all times to avoid them being pinched.

If it doesnt sit for months it should be ok.
Not a bad idea to chock it with axle stands or blocks of wood so it doesnt squash them flat.
Once its up and running you will find you need to jack up the back a bit to get the air system to inflate the bags.

I lent my D1 out to some family members to tow a large trailer on a farm and they thought they would be nice and deflate the airbags for me after they were done. Needless to say one of the bags is now split after it got pinched. Even thought they are a different type of airbag, I am assuming the same would be the case for a D2. I would follow Darren's advice to avoid any problems for yourself.

Different type of airbag. They are the spring, not a supplementary airbag.

Yep, mentioned that, but if you leave both types totally deflated you increase the chance of pinching them (depending what work you are doing on your D2), hence use Darren's idea. Obviously keeping the spring version deflated is not as bad as the supplementary bag version, but I have seen a few go bang over the years.
