Got a 120 lt Long Ranger in my V8 D1. Great for being a bit more flexible on when you have to refuel to take advantage of fuel pricing but it does add about 50Kg to the bum. (extra fuel and tank weight).

So I'm guessing, managed correctly, they are an asset. ie on a long trip in remote areas they give you the range to find the cheaper fuel, other times you regulate the level to suit your circumstances. I know that sounds obvious, but it is a lot of money to spend. It's like seeing vehicles driving around with maxtracks and hi-lift jacks in the city, is it really necessary.

Cons include tank fractures and I think I saw a chassis issue at one point on here too.

I have 150litres in my D2, bought second hand from Gumtree. Started off as 155 L but has a dent so estimate 150L.
Gives me about 1200Km towing. Plus another 300+ with 2 Jerries on the camper.
It is a Long Ranger main tank with a sub tank in the RH quarter panel.
Funny , But I looove having a long range tank. I have never had any problems with mounts etc.
My first one was in a77RRC . I cleaned up the rust on the seam of the stock tank, then went to a petrol station where it proceeded to **** out fuel . No stock tank was available in Sydney so went for a Long Ranger. Second was in my 91RRC, and I fitted one ASAP after buying the car.
Third is current one. I just like having enough fuel to miss the robbing roadhouses or bypass places with low volume who may have bad fuel. Did the Tanami in my RRC plus 2 jerries on my camper trailer with plenty to spare.
I don't think I have ever hit any of them off road, with a 2 inch lift.
IMHO they are mainly for touring . I don't always fill mine when tooling around town.

Has anyone got a brown Davis? They hold 150l compared to 120 or 130l long ranger. I’m in the market so just wondering. I’ve found a 2nd hand long ranger on FB

My V8 D2 has 2 x 40L usable sill tanks, sourced and fitted by Les Richmond. Not cheap, but invaluable.
They fit flush with the bottom of the chassis rails and have presented zero clearance issues.
Better weight distribution than a long ranger hanging from the rear of the car.
Just about doubles range and I suppose if the pump in the main tank crapped out I could route one of the aux pumps to the engine.

Do the aux pumps pump to the main tank? I'm guessing that is right. From the little I know about the fuel system, I don't think it would be possible to bypass the main fuel pump. Some one might be able to let us know about that. [ edit] just realised you have a V8, not a TD5. My mistake.
