    Cruise control drop out TD5 Disco 2a

    I've tried to check this specific failure but most threads refer to surging or no function at all.

    My cruise control works perfectly fine until it randomly decides to turn off. If I press the resume button it will continue if i press the set button it does nothing. It may drop out again shortly after or it may continue to work fine.

    I have established the TD5 cruise control software is within the engine ECU. Not that this helps me much. I have recently changed my main vacuum hose from the pump on the back of the alternator to the brake booster. But i'm not entirely sure this makes any difference to the TD5 cruise control. The reason I changed my vacuum hose is because my brakes didn't feel right, the hose change fixed this issue.

    I really wanted to do away with the EGR vacuum stuff rather than leave the hoses blocked off, the ECU remap has turned the EGR off anyway. I thought the other vacuum solenoids that were there had something to do with the brakes so didn't want to simply do away with all those solenoids.

    Anyway that is a run down, hope i haven't confused the issue. I really just want to know why my cruise control is randomly dropping out.

    Just after writing all that, I realized I've recently plugged in my electronic trailer brake controller which i know randomly turns on the brake lights. This is more likely my issue.

    Nanocom can test button/switch function (if you have one)
    Vacuum has no influence on TD5 cruise control.
    Possible most likely culprit is broken/breaking connection in the “clock spring” or the switch itself.
    Multimeter probing the connector in the steering column for switch function if no Nanocom will help isolate the fault.

    It'll be your brake controller, unplug it and see if it does it. if not you're on a winner. Get another brake controllerCruise control drop out TD5 Disco 2a

    I had issues with my aftermarket cruise control (fitted to my Tdi) after I fitted LED brake lights all round.
    Started off random cutouts, then eventually not cruising at all. Would turn on, but not cruise.

    Not sure if the Td5 cruise system is set up to only operate with working brake lights, as my brothers Td5 once had no working brake lights at one point, but cruise worked fine(as I remember).
    All 3 brake light bulbs were blown .. fixed.

    So for sure check your controller. If that's not the issue, check the brake switch too.

    Mine used to always drop out.
    It was caused by insufficient clearance between the brake pedal and the sensor switch

    Also see if your horns are working when the symptom occurs... if they dont replace the horn relay to rule it out cos strangely it's linked to the CC system but if it continues to do th same the rotary coupler becomes suspect

    That's good to know my horn and cruise control has just stopped working never thought they would be linked but will check both fuses and relays to see if I can find the fault
