    Td5 head off

What additional jobs do people usually do while cyl head is off. I'm having exhaust manifold skimmed and replacing water pump. Do most people pull oil cooler off for a look as well or go with "if it aint broke don't fix it"?
Its easy to get too carried away overhauling everything if your not carefull!

    Td5 head off

I would replace the radiator if it’s more than a couple of years old
Do the oil cooler o rings and check condition
Change all idler and timing cover bearings
Change the hose under the turbo (water)
Easier to do it all now than have it fail later

Already replaced the hose at back of cooler and idler bearing in front timing case + tensioner. Had new rad and fan not too long ago.

Get all the seals and such done to do with the fuel injection(depending on km)
Had the head off mine at 200k roughly, and got everything renewed and changed that I could just to make sure nothing would fail in the future as hopefully it would be the last time that the head would have to come off.

    Cheers,

    Jason

If you can do the work yourself it’s good preventative maintenance if you are unsure of it’s history.
I did everything mentioned above plus vacuum pump oil hoses, starter solenoid kit and replaced the split conduit and the crumbled glow plug plugs on the main engine harness and a few other small jobs.
