Tyre pressures down but no Sharpe turns. If it has Centre Diff Lock ensure its locked. Otherwise just point and shoot. If auto lock it into 2 low for dune climbing. Momentum is your friend. I dont know the area. Cheers
Hello again.
I have limited off road experience and no sand dune experience but would like to gain some!
Just wondering how a standard disco 2, no cdl or chip would fare? Specifically it would be lancelin in WA for anyone with specific experience here.
I'd be going with a crew and would be taking it pretty easy to begin with of course.
Thanks for the input.

Yeah it's auto... Can you do sharp turns in a disco?! Cheers Scott.

I think what he means is try not to do sharp turns with tyres aired down, in case you roll off the rims.
Have you thought about going with the WA LR club as a visitor? There are not infrequent trips in the sand, and you get to go free as a visitor and test out the scene. Very occasionally an aulro member will also start up a day trip (and of course, some belong to both clubs).
If you put a suburb or district in your info, you should get some specific responses/interest.

I'd be curious to know how a non CDL D2 with std diffs would go in sand too.
Brother's D2 has no CDL, but has front an rear diff locks, so one day when the opportunity comes along will have to check it out.
I call myself a technophobe, but (IMO) heavy reliance on traction control in sand isn't an ideal situation.
My D1 with CDL, road oriented AT tyres, and me being too lazy to drop pressures for one last dune (ie. still at 36-ish PSI!) .. 10-15 meter soft and rutted dune, dragging diffs, poor little underpowered tdi still did a lot better than I remember my RRC doing it.
Is your D2 auto or manual?
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Took my discovery 2 to stockton dunes in NSW. No actual dunes there, just beach really but some very fine, dry boggy stuff too. My disco has no centre diff lock and performed just fine. But as mentioned - momentum is your friend. Air down. Recovery tracks would be peace of mind too.
I have towed in soft beach sand and cuttings etc without CDL and later with CDL. With is obviously better but without us still very good. Axle diff locks without CDL doesn't make much sense to me. Cheers
