I have been slimed
Today I thought I would fill my washer bottle as the washers were not working.
However it was full.
I took off the hoses at the nozzles but still nothing .
Took off the hose at where it meets the bonnet and started the pump.
This yellow discoloured water came out with lots of lumps of black slime.
So I got my little ALDI pump and filled and pumped out the bottle about 20 times until I had clear water with no slime.
I also got the hose and blasted into it.
Then I blasted compressed air backwards through the nozzles , and forwards through the non return valves and backwards into the bottle .
I am damned if I know how or why it happened, as I always use demineralized water with a bit of washer detergent.
What a PITA, but for the moment they are working well.
If it happens again I guess I will have to take out the bottle which looks like a major job.

Come and fill up in Vic, we have the best tap water and no slime in it, no need to buy the expensive demineralised stuff.

The only time that anything other than demineralised water has been used is when I was in Tumut in April when a friend filled the bottle with hot water as the nozzles were frozen, although in retrospect I don't think it would have accomplished anything. Maybe I got the algae then. It was black and yuck.
BTW anyone know why the bottle has the yellow closed foam rod in it? You cannot see it for the air filter anyway if it is a depth indicator.
Yes Mario, I agree that Melbourne water is great and soft, however central coast water is OK also , but I still use demineralized water in the radiator and washers. My RRC had a clear radiator after 10 years using demineralized water , and my D2 seems OK after 16 years! ( looks like I may be ordering one soon)

BTW my Hot water system has lasted 11 years so far and the previous lasted 23 years so the Central Coast water must be pretty good. I had to replace the thermostat yesterday for the second time. That is why I thought of it.
