OK, so assuming you have tried it in low range, if the output shaft was stripped you would be able to put it in park and still be able to move the car. ( with hand brake off ....obviously )
    A few possibilities are:
Low fluid , filter "0" rings , or oil pump given up , A clutch disintegrated
If the oil pump or "0" rings were the culprits, then with engine running while checking the fluid it would appear as being way overfull.

Look for a curvature of the flex plate away from the gearbox at the conveter mounts... my guess is that it has worn away the pump drive and the converter has stopped driving it, therefore no line pressure at all. If you start engine and idle it in park, remove the filler plug to check oil level; if it is overful LOTS then the pump isn't turning....

Not good, but before chucking in the towel , let it drain out overnight, then fit a new filter as it sounds like yours might be chocka block , your generic parts suppliers should have a kit in stock as ryco rtk30 will fit, fill it up the correct way then see how it goes.

Still think the pump drive has failed. Fluid should just be ebbing out, not pouring....

Agree... Maybe apprentice put the gears round the wrong way on reassembly .
I always do a filter and oil change 10 000k after rebuilt trans fitted , there's usually a small amount of crap after everything has bed in.

Well done something wrong somewhere my series 3 bulkhead was getting sandblasted by my mate for beer and they squashed it with the crane well going to need a footwell and pillar now bit frustrating but it happens I rang for gearbox overhauling zf way to expensive and after the brand new one they supplied failed so quickly I will avoid them others around seem not so keen so spoke to Ashcroft and there’s landed in Perth no exchange just under $3000 with torque converter so will wait to decide as with my series the disco become part of the family
Has anyone fitted the Ashcroft autos I know there other stuff not bad any feedback appreciated

    Thanks
