    Rear brake caliper carrier

I'm in the process of changing the rear rotors and pads. One of the slidey things STC1910 doesn't slide in the caliper carrier. Any ideas on how to free this up? WD40 has been applied. Hammer it to death? squash it in a vice? (If I had a vice.)

    Is it the calliper?
Sometimes the flexible hose delaminates and can act as a valve. Try loosening the bleed nipple and see if you can slide it back.

Looking at the images in Google they have flats on them so you should be able to get a spanner or multigrips on it and turn it etc until it frees up.

I have ended up getting a secnd hand one. I tried hammering, multigrips doing the 12mm bolt up reaaly tight to turn it. The head sheared of the bolt.

Brake pistons always respond better to twisting.

    Guide pins.
This is what a 'floating caliper' design is.
The caliper isn't bolted to the hub(like on a D1/RRC/Defender) and floats on pins(that you had trouble with) on the carrier.
The caliper moves, or adjusts itself as the pads wear trying to maintain even wear on both brake pads.

Did you grease them up when you reinstalled them?
They're supposed to be really slidy ... not just slidy
The rubber boots don't really keep muck and grime out very well, so it mixes in with the grease and as you noticed, they can get stuck.

    Rear brake caliper carrier

I had a problem with one of my rear Calipers. Get yourself a set of new pins from Mario (Roverlord), a propane torch, a fresh can of penetrating oil and a set of vise grip pliers from the big red and green shedRear brake caliper carrier and then set to work. It’ll take a few rounds of heat/cool/drench/soak/twist but you’ll move the pin. I worked on mine off and on for a total of 6 hours over 2 days and succeeded. Reassemble with new pins and rubber seal boots with generous application of silicone grease. Mine still slides easily 2 years on...

    Rear brake caliper carrier

PS: it’s much easier to work on removed from the vehicle and held in a bench vise.
