    Viscous fan

So I read the thread on here on the viscous fan now mine is very quiet so I put the news paper in the fan to see what would happen at 82 degrees the fan stopped so it is cactus. Can any one tell me what actually gives out on theses fans that renders the coupling useless and can they be fixed thanks all phil.

Generally they leak all the oil out of them some can be refilled but LR ones can't, this is most likely the case. You will see the stain on the coupling it's obvious once the coupling is out.
Also the little coil on the front can **** itself or a cold spot in the radiator right in front of it.
There is a few temp fixes for it but your fan will be running full time.
I also read somewhere that d2 fans come on at 105c and off at 75c but I'm not 100% sure if that's true.
    Cheers Jim

At 82 degrees the test might be irrelevant cos the radiator MUST be hot to trigger the bimetalic coil and the thermostat opens only at 86 so the viscous clutch is not supposed to be locked at 82 if you see what i mean... try again at around 90*C which is the engine's normal operating temp
