Sounds about right. It needs to rotate to allow for the change in angles as the steering is moved.
How much rotational play should there be on the drag link on the front steering? Wondering if my track rod ends are shot? no lateral movment but seems a lot of rotationa 40 degrees +.

My rear, wheel to wheel link was squeaking, no play but was seizing up, the front link, steering box to wheel had developed up and down movement but didn't show lateral slop. Got a new whole rear link from Mario and regreased the old tie rod end and fitted it on the front until i can afford to replace the whole front link.
