TD5 sump removal - where to place chassis stands?

Ok this may sound like a newbie question! But where’s the best spot on the front chassis rails to place a pair of (4t) stands?

Finally time to change the TD5 sump gasket - a job I’ve never had the pleasure of doing yet, so I need to jack up the body of course to remove the sump.

    thanks!

Ditch the stands and get some ramps! Up to you but I still try and avoid crawling under a car with stands. I always use ramps unless the wheels are coming off. It's heaps easier, you get heaps of height and its so much safer than stands. Other wise on the d1 i use the stands on the axles.

You have to drop the axle right down to get the sump out if the car is an EU3.

The stands should go at the first flat area of the chassis behind where it starts to rise.
I found that I couldn't get the sump completely out unless I dropped the first part of the exhaust so I put the new gasket in with the sump just dropped down.
I used thread to position the rear part of the gasket through the holes and cut and pulled it out once the bolts were started.
I couldn't get a torque wrench into place for the oil pump bolt so it was guess and by God. It has held for 60KK so it must have been OK . I used a new factory bolt with the Loctite stuff on it.

Yes EU3. Thanks Phillip, sounds good. Have a genuine gasket and oil pump bolt. Hadn’t looked at the exhaust and mines a full 3” so may be a tight removal 😳

can't remember where i put mine was on the chassis somewhere but i don remember having to lift it up multiple times as it wasn't high enough. if i were to do it again i would just go as high as the jack stands go, as you need all the drop you can get to get the sump out. Other then that was a pretty simple job
