Yep for sure. I agree about the system design. I think BMW got a bit too clever with D2 V8's. Cheers

The system design is fine, () and without doubt the best way to cool an engine,
its just set 15deg too hot.... 96 is absurd.
and amoungst the hottest settings in Tridons range...( as an example)
I do agree that BMW did us no favours![]()

After all the time and money I have spent on the D2a I would be a Mug to sell it and it is one of the most capable/comfortable 4WD's I have ever owned.
I Love taking it down the beach because it handles the sand beautifully and on rough tracks it doesn't throw me around like most of the other 4wd's I have owned and I really don't want to part with the truck.
I just don't want to kill the poor old girl dragging a Big boat half way around the country or on the various other trips I do to Sharks bay and the Pilbara, The Navara will do that work But I doubt it will give me the Disco "Permagrin" though.
I will get a 82C thermostat from Whyatts and fit it to her But I wont be giving her a flogging any more.
I have to get the damage I did to her when I inadvertently backed into a power pole at King Ash Bay fixed then she will become my "Play" truck
I am confident that I can tow my little 12 foot tinny with the Disco without giving her a hard time and I am thinking of getting one of the kids to drive it so that they and a few of the grandkids can accompany me on a few trips as I will be putting all the seats back in her.
All is good I am only retiring the D2a from the hard core work But I wont be selling her anytime soon
I have recently bought a flash little drone (Mavic Air) so now I will be able to get some really good images on my next fishing trips and post them up![]()

Buy a Td5 and convert all the good bits over?
Just a suggestion.
I fitted a Thor manifold to a 3.9 V belt engine.
This entailed working out a thermostat arrangement ,seeing the Thor manifold only has a pipe leaving the inlet manifold.
I was able to get a workshop to machine the flange on the head to take the thermostat housing of the 3.9 , by cutting a small groove in the head for a thermostat to sit on. I cannot remember if they also opened out the hole , but I think they did.
This worked well for several years and with an 88C thermostat , the car never overheated and rarely got over about 95C , even in 48C temperatures in the Kimberley while towing my camper trailer.
I don't know how the radiator hose stubs are arranged on a d2A but assuming a LH inlet hose it all should be doable in reverse.
In the 8 years I owned the car it was only over 100c once and that was low range up Mt Pinnibar on a 30C day.
In fact the tuning books for RV8s say over and over again , that it is unwise to run an RV8 over 100c as this causes both cracked blocks and loose sleeves. I recall seeing a YouTube once where a USA bloke heated his D2 block on a BBQ over 100c and then proceeded to pull the sleeves out by hand.
