Just a reminder that consumer laws says that with a faulty part it is the supplier that has to deal with the issue not the manufacturer - for sure the manufacturer may ultimately get involved but that is with the supplier.
So Land rover in this case (even if it was a genuine part) has not direct obligation to make restitution.  The law requires you to go back to the seller so you should have gone back to your ebay seller and take the issue up with them through the ebay system and or paypal.  Nothing to do with LR at that stage. 
If the seller agrees with your issue, they may take it up with their supplier who in turn take it up with their supplier and if a genuine part the original buyer from LR would take it up with them.
You really do need to know you rights and how to access them - as well as what you can actually do.  This has nothing to do with LR.
