    Shock absorber questions

    Hi all
    happy new year,
Ive done over 280Ks in my LRD2a running OEM air bag springs in my original Shocks,
I recon i should upgrade all 4 of my shockers very soon:P

    Questions,

    1. (would like to keep the air bags, have replaced them a few times) Am i looking for the same shock absorbers that suit springs for my air bags?
    2. I found some Webco ones on Ebay at a pretty good pricing range, has any one had any experience with these?
    3. otherwise what can you guys recommend to look at?

    Hope some one can help
    cheers
    Ray

Mmm shocks can be quite frustrating! I often wonder whether shelling out for name shocks eg Bilstein is really worth it. For me Billies have been a let down with front and rears leaking quite soon after install. I have put the original LR shocks back in which with nearly 300k are still working well.

I also tried tough dog which were dissapointing with a harsh ride on hard settings and floaty ride on softer setting.

Boys here have had OMEs which failed badly on the Simpson and others such as Pro Comps which have also provided mixed results.

Years ago I had Konis which were very good and just about indistructable...but they are v expensive.

I would tend to stick to originals if that suits or see what others might offer.

Btw the boys have gone to US import remotes eg Kings...but the cost is massive...BUT so far no failures and they don't give up off road!

Running Bilstein 994/995 for past 18 months. Have not yet travelled extended corrigations on them but they have so far exceeded my expectations for comfort and control. Outstanding.

If you've been happy with the genuine ones and got 280,000km from them then why change? Replace with the same.

    Cheers team!
Actually replacing with the original shocks did cross my mind!
But then i think the thought of upgrading to something shiny and new got the better of me
Im looking at maybe Terrafirma's now lol

Mario! hope you have been well mate!!!!!
The trout fishing was pretty good up this way really, well until the ridiculously hot weather came about, this has put them into deep water hiding so I have been chasing Bass the past couple of weeks now, that has been pretty good too.

I strongly discourage you to do that... i replaced TF o mine after less than 3 years cos they were rusted away and softened... IMO from the medium priced aftermarkets Bilstein rules, the ride was better with them from new like with the TF i'm certain of that

    Terrafirma...na don't go there.

I noted that Billies had not done well for me with 2/5 visibly weeping and 1/5 failing altogether.

That was after 5k trip including the Simpson. Now on that trip which I descripe as super touring there were cars with Kings OMEs mine and Rad Pro ..all new. The OME were rubbish after a few ks on the track overheating badly and they never recovered. The Billies got very hot but did not lose their dampening but did start to weep and one failed afterwards.

The Kings got warm but were never phased and the other US shocks Rad Pro stayed cold and rode exceptionally well at all times. These were the most expensive being 'hand built'.

Of course there is a significant price factor difference but it does show that you get what you pay for.

    Hi there,

Not sure if you have heard of a brand called Ultima.

I have been running them up front for the past 7000km and are fantastic. I am shortly about to do the rears when funds allow it.

I do a bit of off roading when time permits and have found them to be up to the task.

They say they are suitable for up to a 2 inch lift.

They are pretty inexpensive. About $300 for all four shocks off of a certain auction site but I know they can be bought locally at shops for a bit more $.

They have a 3 year/100000km warranty and are supposedly Australian.

Part numbers are front 400511 and rear 400516.

    Just an option!
