    Solved!!

Three cheers to all who guess the solenoid contacts - yes they were the culprits - refer photo. New Denso fitted today which was amazing service and turnaround from the guys at Devonport Auto Electrics. I hope I haven't breached protocol by calling out these guys who squeezed me into their schedule given our travelling status.

Anyways many thanks to everyone for time and effort to contribute; much appreciated. Our journey continues...

    cheers Andrew

Great photo and glad to help out for once on something I do actually know well. I spent a couple of my teenage years working in an auto electrics shop after school and Sat mornings. Learnt loads. Repaired countless starters and alternator.

That was many moons ago. D2 2004 Auto TD5 - intermittent Starter issues

Thanks again. That early exposure would have been great experience which I would have traded my white collar existence for any day D2 2004 Auto TD5 - intermittent Starter issues

It lead me to 8 years studying electronics just for my interest in it and now i work in the industry, interfacing between electronics and software systems, so yeah, it was one of the pivotal points in my life .... Ah the memories ... D2 2004 Auto TD5 - intermittent Starter issues
