    Ebay abs wheel sensors

    Hello all,

First post so go easy. Purchased a td5 disco 2 manual in December. Abs light on but not all the amigos. Connected my icarsoft lr2.0 up and found that one shuttle valve switch wasn't working. Fixed the switch and reinstalled. Abs light cleared and all well for 5 days. Then icarsoft says front right wheel sensor no output.

I had fitted an eBay wheel sensor in December as a continuity check showed it open circuit. The previous owner also had found the same sensor faulty.

Yesterday i connected the lr2.0 and confirmed the right front sensor fault again. I drove the disco up and down my driveway whilst monitoring all 4 wheel sensors. The right front appeared to lag the other 3 especially at low speed.

I know the sensor works but there is some question about the sluggish output. I'm thinking it could be the abs sensor gap, contamination or a crap sensor.

Has anyone had any long term success with cheap sensors or is genuine the only way to go?

PS. I found 2 bits of black plastic covering the other two amigos. Now all three are my friend.

    Cheers
    Alfie

Hit and miss I'd say for aftermarket. .also the fault could be in the wiring and connectors so I replace with long lead sensors nowadays which connect to the SLABS under the glove box which bypasses the potential fault areas.

Pia to do but makes sure the amigos stay away for much longer.

Thanks for the reply. I thought genuine would be the go. Long wire removes that plug near the master cylinder.

I pulled the old sensor apart and couldn't believe it was electromechanical.

It actually had a spring, switch contacts, magnet and 1000 ohm outer coil. I would have thought it should have been all solid state.

I know it was a cheap chinese style sensor because the previous owner admitted to fitting a cheapo previously to that corner.

Would love to pull a used genuine sensor apart to compare. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a genuine sensor. Roverlord didn't have any in his store when I checked.

    Any suggestions for supplier?

    Cheers
    Alfie.

I thought it was just a coil. When I replace mine, I'll take the old, genuine (I hope it's genuine) one apart. Don't hold your breath but.

    See here

Almost certainly what fails would be the fine wires where they do the 90° bend and then connect to whatever ...

That's what I would have thought. Hope someone can pull a genuine sensor apart to compare one day when time permits.

Absolutely. That wire is finer than a human hair. Would be very susceptible to breakage where it joins the thicker external wires. It would be the finest copper wire I have ever seen. It would takes a long length of copper wire to reach 1000 ohms.
