    Car Carrier Trailer query

I know people have put a Disco on a trailer and transported the car. I am looking for a car carrier trailer to take the Freelander in for repair. The trailers I see have a limit of 1300kg. The Freelander weighs in at 1770-1950kg. Also apparently it is illegal to tow a combined trailer and load with a mass greater than 2000kg. How do people get around this?
Any one got a car carrying trailer for hire?

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

You been looking at UHaul trailers they are ridiculously light on but great to tow though.
I have used their trailers and im not about to say what i put on it in public but lets just say it was slightly over weight
There are mobs around that have far better trailers with decent carrying capacity .

Just be careful with move yourself, ive had a few problems with their trailers. Brakes not working on car carriers, tailgates falling, horse float ramps coming down whilst driving, horse floats not up to scratch etc etc.
Try kennards if your worried about the weight, their trailers will tow what you need. Even though we all load the crap out of the hire trailers, if your worried about getting caught go with somone else. I have a feeling the 1300kg limit is for insurance reasons, ive never checked the rating on one but 1300kg is nothing for a car carrier.

I believe the towing limit is low because on trailer brake controller are no longer allowed

Over 2T you need an in car brake controller and pretty sure brake away battery system that in in car monitoring.

The average punter doesn’t have this set up in their car.

Are you a member of a breakdown service like RACQ.....that’s I got mine to the repairer late last year.

Ring Road Rentals have a 3.2T GVM, (Gross Vehicle Mass I assume) Plenty enough for the Freelander.

    Towing

The 1300kg load limit is because of the tare weight (700kg I'm guessing) subtracted from the GVM of 2000kg. This is the maximum for override brakes which are fitted as most punters wanting to tow their VN Commy don't have electric brakes and these type of trailers are cheap. You can go over that limit with four wheel brakes and breakaway system for the brakes. The 3.2T trailer will need an electric brake controller in your Disco. What is wrong with the bubby Landie, I'm looking at getting one later on in the year?

I think that the clutch has gone. But as out 130 odd of these for sale only 2 were manual, not a lot of choice. 160,000 0n the clock, not unusual I think.
I like the car, no low range transfer case so limited of road compared to a Discovery, but still quite capable. In November in Newport, Vic we had floods. My daughter drove through without an issue, 500mm wading depth, apparently her mates in the car were ****ing themselves. their i20, maxda 3 would not have survived.
1800 rpm at 100kph is good. The engine has more torque and horsepower than the TD5!

Don't know about a brake controller on the trailer. My Disco has an electric brake controller fitted.

Just a thought but have you checked your local area for a tow truck delivery service. Here in town we have a guy that has a flat bed truck with a tilt tray and delivers cars for about 50 bucks, heaps easier then mucking around with a trailer, and possibly cheaper too
