    Dirty Cooling Liquid

    Hey guys!
    So i bought a Disco 2 and when i checked the cooling liquid, i saw that the box looked like someone put Outback sand into it (Shared album - Marc Schepp - Google Photos). Does anyone how i could open the box without destroying something? It looks pretty sealed.

    Remove it from the vehicle and use a big bottle brush to remove as much of the sludge as you can.
    Then get some rust converter(phosphoric acid), pour it in to a depth of about 10mm over a surface and let it do its magic...
    Every 30 minutes or so change the bottle position so that the converter is on a new surface.
    Renew the fluid as required.
    Should remove any rust, even if its made its way into the bottle plastic.

    I would be more concerned about the rest of the cooling system (Including the heater matrix) than the colour of the overflow tank, Make sure you flush the cooling system well and renew the coolant and bleed the system.
    Clean out the overflow tank by all means But if it is that filthy just imagine what the engine, heater matrix and radiator are like

    Thanks for your responses and welcoming me in the forum
    Both answers sound reasonable and i would instantly do it, but i don't have any clue how to do it and i would like to safe my money instead of giving it to the mechanics.
    Do you guys know where to get detailed instructions for that or can you give me some 🙄😬
    my main knowledge is in electricity but i would like to do those parts of my car also by myself.

    Use the search function on the bottom left of this page to look at the many post about doing a coolant flush/change on a D2, This one isn't too bad

    Thank you very much I got a bigger problem with the car, thats why i cant run the engine until wednesday when the mechanics fix it, but i will defintely try my best to fix it afterwards with your and the other guys help

    Try using cost effective maintenance RMI 25 cooling system cleaner. You can leave it in and run the car as normal. I'd do a flush first to remove the current crud. Seems like cem website is currently down though. (11:35am est 16 feb 2019).

    do you know if a normal cooling liqiud flush would also clean all the **** inside the overflow box? And probably a common asked question, but i cant find the drain plug for the cooling liquid. I cant find a RAVE for a td5 and there is nothing in the normal manual

    To find the drain for the cooling system you remove the plastic plate above and in front of the stabiliser bar.
    you will see a steel pipe with a bolt sticking out of the bottom,this is the drain. Undo the bolt and don’t lose it or it’s washer.
