Thule roof rails and roof tents

I have a set of Thule rails attached to the standard roof bars on the D2A. Would I be able to fit a King's roof tent straight on to this or do I need to buy a separate roof rack (possibly linking to the gutters)

I want to try and keep as low was possible (and light as possible), would the standard rails take the weight of the tent and two people in it and can you attach it successfully ?

    Cheers Matt.

Hmm I think you would be pushing it a bit

The owners handbook specifies a 50kg load limit on the roof bars. Depending on the weight of the persons, I’d estimate the load of tent, bars, people and bedding could easily be 200kg or more. For that weight I’d be more comfortable using gutter mount bars than putting it solely on the roof panel.

    cheers

When I bought my D2a it had a full length gutter mount roof rack,I put a load of timber on it (well under 200 kg) and could not open the rear doors. I got rid of the rack and purchased a set of extended rails,I was surprised at the strength of the reinforcement under the roof where the rails attached. I would imagine the standard rail mounts are equally as strong. Load ratings on racks take into account travelling along at over 100 with a lot of drag from a high load.
