    The FT sensor is not expensive nor hard to swap, a bit tight on RHD's but not a killer so better rule that out and the ECU if you have a spare then if no joy you can think of a wiring issue... as you well presumed it can be a problem in the engine harness and for that the easyest(not the cheapest) way is to replace it with a new one if you want to keep the vehicle. I replaced mine few years ago as preventative maintainance cos i found some weak spots on it and even though i thought that the engine runs OK it ran much better with the new harness... it contains all the connectors for the engine management and IMO it's normal for them to be ''tenderised'' by 15 - 20 years spent in the engine bay's environment

    Yeah, never thought of that side of things.

    I'll see if I can find which plug the Fuel temp and speedo lines use at the ECU end .. maybe the spikes(if caused by slightly faulty connections) are related .. and hence the ECU plug.

    EDIT: actually just thinking, you also posted that your Auto kind'a playing up a little too.
    If more knowledgeable folks know where the SLABS/Auto ECU/Engine ECU connectors all meet up(so to speak) .. like you say John .. maybe your issues, here and the auto thread, are related, possibly to dodgy wiring harness or something.

    So...I got the poo’s with my D2 running like a wheezing Hilux today and, although I was extremely pressed for time, unplugged the FTS plug with speed that the Flash never saw coming. I’ve recently bought some SCA electrical contacts cleaner, so whist I was moving at the speed of light, I gave the whole FTS sensor plug & socket a liberal squirt. I waited 1 minute (which at my current speed seemed like a year) plugged it all back together & it started without any wheezes.

    I’ll monitor it & keep you posted. If I keep having trouble I might pull the sensor out and clean the contacts with a cotton bud. But hopefully it’s just the plug. I am going to buy a new engine harness, but there’s a chance that I might need a trans rebuild. That’s kind of more important than the wiring harness.

    It does seem a little coincidental isn’t it. The other auto issue I’ve got is the Parking sensor is a bit dicky. Which could very well be the wiring harness also.
