Well I destroyed a rear tyre on my D2 because the air suspension hid the fact that it was deflating.

I have diffiniative proof that my D2 is better than a D4.
Last week I had cause to drive to Mt Isa, I went the "Hills" road, Gregory to Camooweal, which is mainly rough rock surface with lots of gibbers & protruding rocks.
About half way along I came across a D4 with a totally shredded tyre. Really old bloke driving (I'm old, so he was really old) trying to change the tyre.
I gave him a bit of a hand only to find his spare was pretty deflated. I did not take my compressor due to this being a short drive so could not help him there.
He said he would wait about as someone would come along. Nice bloke.
On the way back amongst 3 X cars/vans/campers with flat tyres we came upon another D4 with chewed out tyre. Young family & they were all good.
So despite me stuffing a tyre which stayed up until Mt Isa where I swapped it for the spare, I did not have a issue.
I can check my spares pressure without mucking about & winding it down & I can/do have really high profile tyres I can let a little air out of for such roads & still drive on the seal.
Also, when I have a flat I know about it, the groovy air suspension etc doesn't hide the fact so I don't completely destroy the tyre.
So the D2 is better than the D4 except for the cup holders …………………………… power...…………………….. space...……………………… torque...…………………………… & a few other bits & bobs.

I have a D2 and a D4. Going on the rough stuff can lead to scratches and/or dents (depending on ability/difficulty/luck). The D4 cost an order of magnitude more than the D2 so I don't mind so as much getting the D2 scratched. Therefore D2= more fun!!..... but yes the D4 has really good cup holders

We have both. She loves the new (to us) D4, but me I like to take it for a spin every now and then but it gives me no cause or interest to upgrade from my D2a.
AHA!
Thanks for the heads up.
Had plans to get a D2, but going from this observation, I'm better off holding off that decision.
... I do have a lot of cups, so don't want to be left wanting!
power! .. don't care(hey I currently drive an auto 300TDi)
space! ... care less
torque! .. I talk too much as it is already.
Nup!
Cup holders .... for my collection of cups.
ps. D1 cups holders(on the whole) are worse than D2 ... so you can see my dilemma
