    Disco 2A TD5 exhaust mods

Hi I've just become a Land Rover owner, cheaper than a mechanics course.

I'm looking for advise on exhaust mods are they worth it for performance improvements or reliability. I've seen some opinion that a 3 inch exhaust will lower EGT and improve turbo response.

I've also seen that removing the cat an leaving the old exhaust is as effective.

I do not want loud, just better. I like fiddling, yes I wear glasses.

    What say you TD5 owners?

Ohh its bone stock ATM, soon the EGR will fall of, and a catch can go on. I've almost convinced myself it must have a remap.

Drop centre box, replace with hot dog to avoid drone.
    No need to change size.

My TD5 goes great with standard exhaust, I have had it chipped, boost box & larger intercooler, also variable vane turbo. Still get 10l/100klm too.
I would attend to the exhaust last.

The 2.5” diameter of the standard exhaust is fine for the power levels of the Td5 even when hotted up. The two main restrictions are the main muffler which can be easily replaced with a straight through high flow unit and the flexible joint in the front pipe which has a smaller internal diameter than the exhaust pipe and can be replaced with a larger one to keep a constant diameter of the exhaust system. Also the cat converter, for later emission standard vehicles, which can be replaced with a high flow unit or perhaps removed if the vehicle is off road only... Beyond that your just throwing away money for nothing in the exhaust system - rather start with the intercooler and turbo options.

If noise is a concern a hot dog can be put in the cat converter position (if no cat converter is fitted) and in the tailpipe to reduce.

Once you go big turbo then often a 3” is required.

I went from a noisy 3” exhaust back to a standard $150 secondhand Landrover original exhaust with no cat. No noticeable difference and now a nice quiet ride.
    Cheers
