Td5 Coolant outlet elbow with additional sensor hole

Came across this while chasing the torque specs for the Td5 Coolant outlet elbow. Expensive but good idea. Wonder if the hard anodised aluminium would last longer than the originals do?

How much would you like it to last more than the original? ... mine is still good at almost 300K km and it's drilled and tapped to accept the additional sensor, the head is new but the elbow is still the original one

I too have had no issue. The vehicle is also at nearly 300,000km, though I can't promise that it's the original as I've only had the vehicle for 120,000km of it's life. Perhaps the failures that I've read about are from people running incorrect coolants?

That's worked well then? I did consider it but wasn't convinced that there was enough meat to do it so went with the MadMan EMS sandwich plate

It works, but is less than ideal as the top radiator hose has to be trimmed shorter so you loose the alignment arrow and the elbow has to be removed in order to access one of the four air-conditioning compressor bolts. The Gore product above would have the same downsides.

Alternatively would a t-piece be ok to use in the original hole so that two sensors can work concurrently from the single hole?

it works a treat for me... almost 5 years since i've been running with this setup without probs, i used just a drop of Loctite 567 on the thread cos i'm scrupulous but it might not be compulsory.
