    Steel rear bumper fitting

    Hey all,

Got a new rear steel bar Land Rover Discovery 2 Rear Bumper Bar Heavy Duty DA5646 Steel Black | 4wd Industriesand finally fitted it last week, was sort of ok when fitting but the top corners closets to the end caps/finishers was very close to the mounting screws, like touching!

Any way the son took the D2 away on a camping holiday and while doing some light 4x4ing he bumped the rear bar on the ground and the bar moved and snapped off the corner finisher

And pushed the bar up more exacerbating the above original fitting etc

Was thinking of using a jack and spreading the outer wings out so they’re not so close to the quarter panels or am I doing it all wrong??

    Any tips?

    Cheers Lemo

I put a couple of washers on the outer mounts which fixed the situation a bit.

I found when using the towbar mount with the washers there that it moved the bar out and down a little.
Mine still is at an angle to the garnishes but has not knocked them off.

    Regards Philip A
BTW, It shouldn't move if the bolts are tight enough.

I too have found that the corner finisher plastic pieces pop off if the bar is knocked on the ground. At the end of the day it's not really that heavy duty a bar perhaps more so on the ends due to it's more central mounting? I think I sikaflexed the last one back on to give it extra hold and it hasn't popped off since.

Regarding mounting it with the towbar setup. I ground the two spacers off the factory tow bar as they're about the same thickness as the tongue of the rear bar that now goes there. I found this lined it up best.

I also have a Hayman Reece tow bar that I tried to fit with it but could not make work. Seems it's only compatible with the Land Rover units.

I drilled and pushed a self tapping screw through my finishers. That rear bumper is the best.

I love that bar, they are good replacement
I put many different hitches and don’t have any issues

i managed to fit mine so I had the max spacing to avoid the bumper touching the corner bits.

but yes, they flex a little on the outer edge as all the mounts a more central.

does any body know of I fitting that fits the tube insert that might fit a high lift jack?

Yes, those holes are made for a high lift jack. There is an adapter that you purchase to use on the jack.
