D2a ARB bar - indicators don't work when headlights are on

Hi all. Hoping to draw on the brains trust here.....

I just finished installing an ARB bar to my 2004 D2a. I'll grab some photos tomorrow when it's light again.

I put in new LED indicators from ARB. I spliced these straight into the wiring loom at the headlight - got a good soldered connection.

The issue is that the indicators in the bar aren't working properly

    • When no headlights are on, the indicators on the car work as they should, and so do those in the bar.
    • When I have the headlights on, the indicators on the car work as they shoul, but those in the bar refuse to light up.

Also as an aside, the foglights don't work. Tested the bulbs and they're fine. I can't be sure if these worked before installing the bullbar as I never really used them.

Anyone have ideas of what could be causing this issue?

    Cheers, Josh

Double check you have wired into indicator and not the headlight circuit

Thanks for the reply. There were four ground wires in the loom and two had continuity to the existing indicator ground so I just picked one of those to use. Do you think this is where it has gone wrong? I need to pick the other ground that had continuity to the indicator ground?

Chances are that earth is not a earth if you turn your lights on you will probably find your earth has power to it ( using a test light of course. ) . When your lights are off there is enough resistance through your headlamp globes to earth and enable your indicators to light up. When lights are on you have 2 positives and no earth (negative ).

It should be ok if you splice into the 2 wires that are connected to the actual indicator.

With globes in, you'll probably test everywhere as an earth and the headlights wont turn on the blinkers because the LEDs are diodes.

I suspect you've done is something along the lines of this:

Thanks all - rewired the ground to chassis and all working tip top as it should.
Photo as promised (nothing too interesting though heh)
