Also check out P38As. The early ones, e.g., my 1995 model, even though it had 16x8 alloys as standard, the spare was a 16x7 steel.

Was the P38 the same PCD as D1 or D2? My '95 D1 had a steel spare and four alloys.

Sounds like you bought my olde bus, 58i. The spare was still the original & had touched the ground briefly twice in it's life. No, really.

When I cleaned out the LR parts accumulated over a few years back in May I took the steels to the scrapper & guess how much I got


Go on............ guess............................................. ....... $A36 was all, for the 4 wheels. YIKES!

There was a time when these were valued as changeovers for going in the rough stuff & then put the Alloys back on when you got home, but no longer it seems.

I couldn't shift them, so off to Scrappy Land they had to go.

P38A, D2, D3, D4, RRS, L322, and L405 all have the same PCD. Offsets vary. (I had 18" RRS wheels on my P38A and planned to put them onto my L322 - with appropriate tyre size change).

I haven't checked but I wouldn't be surprised if the Freelanders 1 and 2 have the same PCD.

Series LR, County, Defenders (pre L663 at least), RRC, D1 all have the same PCD.

Most D2s came with 16x7 mags in Australia anyway.
Those ones with the rounded spokes are usually 16x7 and had 235.70x16 tyres.

I bought a set of P38 mags and was surprised that they were 8inch as the tyre choices are not as wide. I was refused by a Bridgestone dealer to put 245 70x16s on, although with later research I think they are OK.

I currently have 255.70 x16s BFGs on but would like a slightly smaller diameter, and the 255.65x16s are all pussy except maybe the Michelin Latitude cross.

So it should be much easier to get 16x7 mags than steels.

Only the P38A HSE (and Vogue/Autobiography) had 16x8 or 18x8 The base model had 16x7 mags.

Wheel type and size

Alloy 7.00J X 16 (use with 235/70 tyres)
Alloy 8.00J X 16 (use with 255/65 tyres)
Alloy 8.00J X 18 (use with 255/55 tyres)
