Thread: Will an auto transmission from a D1 94 300tdi fit a 2002 D2 td5 ??

Althought they are both 4HP22 transmissions, they are setup differently. The D2 uses computer control on it. Not sure how the internals, input shafts, bellhousings etc are different.

I don't know about the bellhousing, but the electronics that run a D2 transmission are not compatable with a D1 transmission.
One is a 4HP22 and the D2 is a 4HP22EH.
It is would be pretty difficult even to rig up a kickdown cable as the connection from the accelerator to the ECU in a D2 is electronic vs cable on a D1.
In any case you would be going backwards, No 3rd gear TC lockup, no adaptive control, no sport or low range ratio lock.

And believe me the kickdown cable setup would be the most difficult thing to jury rig, from someone who actually did it to fit a Thor manifold to a 3.9.

Bell housing and input shaft is different so it won't physically fit.

Well I guess I now know and will look around for the correct transmission. Thank you all
