    Rocker cover gasket replacement questions

    Hi All,

After discovering the ol' teaspoon of oil at the red connector to the ECU this week, I believe it's time to replace the injector harness. Obviously, will also replace the rocker cover gasket when doing so, as I have no records of when this was last done. Having never done the process before I've been getting all the necessary info thru RAVE & here, but still have a couple of questions...

With my engine VIN being < 1A736339 (early model Td5, 2001), I'll need the gasket with part no. ERR7094, but, I believe I'll also come across an oil separator gasket (part no. ERR7155). My questions are...

*How exactly is this oil separator gasket affixed to the oil separator plate? I've attached an extract from rave but it's not clear.
*Is it prudent to also replace this gasket whilst replacing the rocker cover gasket?
*Is genuine the only way to go with these gaskets? I can only see genuine gaskets from UK suppliers online.

I've tried doing searches online & thru aulro but can find no real mention of this oil separator gasket at all.

    Thanks in advance all.

    Cheers

    Brian

I replaced the camshaft cover sealabout 2 weeks ago. I also changed the camshaft cover grommets, as the seal was leaking. Oh and the front camshaft bore cover.
I also change the injector loom as a precaution, only to find that the injector loom had been siliconed up.
I didn't change the oil separator gasket. I did not know it existed!
    I bought genuine

The oil separator gasket came about as I was trying to locate part numbers for ordering online. It's showing up for early build td5's only (with VIN < 1A736339). Rave confirmed its existence, yet I can find no mention of it in countless threads I've come across regarding replacement of the rocker cover gasket. How it's affixed to the plate, as shown on rave, has got me scratching my head...

I was leaning towards genuine too, peace of mind & the cost isn't worth worrying about....

Can I ask Bohica, genuine for the camshaft cover grommets too?

[Don't bother it's a rectangle baffle plate riveted to the underside of the rocker cover, I looked at this awhile ago & re securing plate to rocker cover will be an adventure!!!

Much appreciated all...now I can see the riveted plate to the underside of the cover. Looks like touch if you dare type stuff, so I will leave alone too

Thankfully my oil ingress to the ecu isn't as bad as the pics, but will probably head there eventually if I look the other way.

Just perusing TGO now for a potting compound to use on the replacement injector loom supplied by Mario. Thumbs up as always Mario for your prompt service

Genuine on the Grommets , on the after market ones the rubber compound tends to break down from heat quicker and gets dry.

    re RC gasket Td5

Bought RC gasket online from LR Parts (Ebay) about$25 delivered if I recall right, and it went on very nicely to my 2000 Td5.
I use lots of Hylomar on gasket, cover and around head surface, let it tack off, to attach/affix to the cover and then lower cover with gasket attached into place.
I found that if I loosened some plastic attached to the back of engine (might be a heat shield of some sort), then it was much easier to line up the rocker cover to get it to sit right first time.
Seems that brining cover in from passenger side lets the metal oil deflectors in the cover line up a bit easier, and I found lowering rear first seemed to work better.
It is a bit of a fiddle to re-fit that cover and all the bits hanging off the inside.
It was VERY much easier with that heat shield on back of motor loosened off.
While I was in there, I also used some Permatex silicone on the inside of injection harness to stop oil migrating down the harness. Have found that it is great silicone compared to other brands and worth the extra for those special jobs.
Washed the injection plug out with pressure pack points/electrical cleaner (Repco brand very cheap does the job). I think it is just ether in a can.
I now have nil oil coming through harness or around gasket.

And that will be a real joy to clean next time,
although I CAN understand why you did it
