Limped home from work - transmission

Gday folks. I bought a disco 2 auto a couple of months ago. The previous owners hadn't done much off road. First thing I checked was the Hi-Low range. It was very stiff but I freed it up and now works fine. After reading on here about the cdl, I got underneath and found the spigot(?) and it turned easily. So I found a track (plenty up here in the Blue Mountains) turned the cdl on, hit low range and went for a cruise. All was good. Before the cdl was tested I had the 3 amigos constantly on, after testing they only come on intermittently.

Anyway I was about to leave work a couple of weeks later and when I started the engine the manual and sports mode lights stayed on. I switched on and off a couple of times and the lights stayed on. It wouldn't go up a gear when I was doing about 80km/h rpms stayed over 2,500. Normally when I hit 80 the transmission will shift and rpms drop just below 2000. I limped along the freeway (about 25km) at 70km/h to keep rpms at around 2,000 - 2,500. When I got up Lapstone Hill with a gradient of 1:30 I dropped off a work mate and turned the truck off. On restart the lights were gone and the truck ran as normal.

The people we bought it off had receipts for work done (about $10,00) including a new transmission which is now about a year old.

Is this any thing to be concerned about? Should I take it to the mechanic? It was a one off thing for about 30 mins driving.

Thanks in advance and this forum has already been a wealth of info for me.

The m & s lights can come on for several reasons, the most likely would be low battery.

The only caveat with restarting to reset them is that if you turn the vehicle off and on again too quickly you will get the same issue as the ecu's are still trying to communicate with each other, I'd wait 10/15 second before restarting.

If the problem persists you may have a more serious problem that will need investigating as it's not very healthy for the auto to run in limp mode.

    Cheers

I would certainly be concerned, a stitch in time.......
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me, about autos, will be along soon, with more specific advice.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

M & S lights flashing, limp mode, is the selected gear indicator display working correctly ? My first choice would be the xyz switch. It sits right underneath an aircon drain tube and is a renowned failure point giving the symptoms described. The auto may have been changed but no one gives xyz switches away so it's probably been transferred over from the old box. If you're real lucky it may be mis aligned and a simple tweak may solve the problem but you'd have to be real lucky.
