    Transfer case LT230 with internals

Does this just mean that it can swap into a D2a?

    Thanks

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I thought all D1 and D2s had LT230 transfer cases.

It’s the same case. Except if you have a case without the CDL nipple on the top.

D2/D2a needs a transfer box with a hi/lo sensor. Older LT230 (e.g. from D1) don't have that. It can also have a different gear ratio (if it doesn't come from a disco) which might not be what you want.

Can I transfer a 1999 Disco 2 LT230 into a 2003 D2a? The internal are there so is it just a matter of putting it in and connecting the high/low and CDL cables?

Not sure how much this will help, but when researching for my D2a they say this

From Ashcrofts, talking about their centre diff

We make 2 different types of these as there are 2 different diameters of spline used for the high/low selector hub, the one you need can be identified by either the serial number or vehicle type,

    Type A - RRC, Disco 1, all Defender pre TD5, Serial numbers starting 20D, 22D, 25D, 26D, 28D, 29D, 36D

    Type B - Disco 2, TD5 and TDCi Defenders, Serial numbers starting 41D, 42D, 43D, 57D, 60D, 61D, 62D, 68D, 69D, 70D

For the ZF autobox, confirm you have the later longer splined FTC5090 coupling shaft (because of the longer female spline on the LT230's cross drilled input gear).
