just to clarify, my question is can the shift pattern be altered to suit the knew tyre size or does it have to be gear ratio change in the TC.

I think you mean No, and YES?(it's a double question)
Although I do recall from some time ago that there is a very expensive gear change thingamijig (ex UK?) that can reprogram gear change points in the TD5
There was also a post on using a D2 V8 ECU to obtain different change points, but I sold my D2 before completing my research.

the reason i ask is it would so much easier to alter it by programing, which would be easy to revert when required rather than exchanging TC. Thx for the input all

I'm running a seriously remapped td5 and even mine had trouble with the v8 auto ecu. It would require vnt , intercooler, lpg, and a wanton disregard for the smoke map.
So I wouldn't advise trying to run that one.
The compushift would be the "easiest" user programmable way to make big changes.
Some minor improvements can be had from changes to a couple of maps in the engine ecu, but the ideal solution would be to remap the auto ecu itself.

I just put it in sports mode and thats a pretty big improvement for a mapped and intercooled Td5. Far more drivable and no charge.

I seriously wouldnt bother with messing about with the programming or altering the TC ratios, You will soon get jaded with the excess fuel usage and the lack of torque with the oversize tyres ( even though they may look "Cool") and revert back to a reasonable tyre size so that you can take full advantage of you D2's inherant 4WD capabillity in stock form![]()
