Bought a 220K 2003 TD5 over the phone and had it sent to LR workshop to "improve" the engine performance in a cost effective way (If possible).
He felt no real gain in fitting 3" exhaust, but recommended remove cat and main muffler (put straight through pipe), disconnect EGR and get the ECU remapped. (Cost about $1800)
After collecting it, I had 900K's to test drive it home.
I found no real increase in engine noise inside car, minimal "drone" that some have referred to after removing muffler.
Car does perform better than my other TD5 D2, and climbed highway over escarpment with ease.
have since done 3000k's in past week and find that fuel consumption is 10L/100k at average 110-120kph. (And vehicle has 235 tyres so running slightly smaller diameter than usual, which I am changing later in week.
Have had to overtake semis on road and find that vehicle can hit 140kph pretty quickly.
