    Odd non starting issue

    Hi guys,

Strange one happened just now. Went to start my TD5 and it almost kicked in as normal. Engine turned and was about to fire but then stopped. Next time I turned the key it was weird, seemed almost gutless, like there was no chance the engine would start firing. I tried it 3 times and same response so stopped. Had a look in the engine bay and predictably couldn't see anything untoward. Removed and replaced the battery earth and lo behold fired up first turn as per normal. So all good now but just wondering if any of the brains trust had any thoughts on what might have caused this...

At this stage of a D2's life an Earth strap check is probably a service item,

Or it might have just been a poor earth at the battery. Seems obvious now you've pointed it out! Thanks mate.

Td5 starter motor solenoids are known for developing faulty contacts. I don't have the part nos readily available but new plungers and contacts are available from Ashdown-Ingram. (I'll see if I can find them later if no one else pipes in.) And apparently fitting them is quite easy once you get the starter motor out! I don't know as I had mine done by BOR along with some other jobs.

It's not actually bum recognition, it's an odour (fart) detector.

    Works best with heated seats.
