About what the car costs per km. I really don't. I bought the Disco 2a to go places that other cars will wet their knickers just thinking about. I have been up hill, down dale through 1m of river, (ok about 900mm but!!) I have been bogged, snatched out, winched out, almost to the axles in soft sand. Camped in the middle of nowhere overnighted near Mt Skene in the snow. Snow Rover 08-2018
And had a wonderful time doing it. These cars are amazing.
    Money well spent.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Just did it, and not too bad considering my stuff ups and need for accessories I don't really need.
But my 'slo mo' D1 Tdi has cost me $81.73/wk over 208 weeks so far.
But this includes the $4500 purchase price (plus finance costs .. ie. zero! ) and about $2K in accessories I didn't really need, but I though had to have. Radio, Cruise Control, turbo controller, and 1Gauge gauge system.
Has been my daily for those 4 yrs, I've done just shy of 100K klms myself and she's done just over 400K herself.

breaking down costs per week of ownership is terrifying! Thanks for now providing me another metric to consider!

Aside from a small sojourn over to my son, I've had a D2 to play with since new in 2000.
Its back home again and will begin a transformation soon.

    In the repairs list:
    1 alternator
    Front ball joints
    Track Rod
    2 sets of rotors
    4 sets of pads
    2 fuel regulator rebuilds

The modifications list is scarier and I'm not compelled this morning to list it

    Its only money

And most can't take it with them - not too many shrouds with pockets, or hearses with trailers to carry what you didn't spend.

18 years in and still running well at 280km. I can't even remember a lot of the costs but certainly the places it's taken us.
All over the Vic High Country, Simpson Desert, Hay River etc etc. I think it's been worth it.
    cheers

Never done the per week costs, have had mine since 15/10/1999 it now sits beside D5 in garage, still take it out but saving it for the cape York trip then may sell it for parts as has a lot of extras fitted, Overhauled auto with BMW internals, limited slip transfer case, limited slip front diff, locking diff in rear, stronger Ashcroft CVs and Maxi rear axles, Hydraulic Winch 85 ltrs per minute flow at 190 bar (around 3000psi). TD5alive turbo, long range tanks 150 ltr. lucky I am a mechanic as have done it all myself including the auto trans.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

I've been using your old posts on what to do/what to look at with the auto.

Hopefully it helps, was a busy 12 days doing the trans, transfer case and fixing oil leaks on engine and doing wiring in Engine bay, at least you have tips on cleaning parts and using kitchen appliances for other uses.

Tombie - I note that you've rebuilt your Fuel Pressure Regulator twice...any tips? Did you do it with the intake manifold in place? The two main tips I've picked up in doing it without removing the manifold is to access the lower bolt with a very long socket extension under the front mudguard and to put a rubber band around the three bolts to hold them in place when refitting the FPR. I've also had to buy a long-handled ring spanner to "knock" the two top bolts loose as whoever did them up last time went way beyond torque specs...
