Something wrong with EGR delete on my 03 TD5 Manual?

Yesterday night was "what a... job" to do EGR delete mod into mine because even trying all of my tools still got stuck with the 2 small screws underneath the coolant hose but at the end I got it well in.

But the new things come in this morning when I drive the car.

    1. The sound from the engine now is A WHOLE LOT more grunt, more truckie, and heavier than it was. For me it is ok no problem.

    2. PROBLEM: I quickly sense a bit of exhaust fume inside the cabin, even little I could tell. This did not happen before EGR delete. Also I can smell exhaust fume in the engine bay (did not have before too).

    3. PROBLEM: There is obvious sound when you drive the car under load (not when idling at any revs), hard to tell but the sound is like the fan sticks with one sort of plastic tape and that one flying touching the side wall when the fan increased the speed (of course there is no tape, I just want to tell you that type of sound)

    4. PROBLEM: I found there is a kind of blockage of power somewhere, the car is slower, sluggish and slower to go up as it was.

Wonder what was wrong, if any ideas are welcome bros.

Check exhaust manifold and the blank plug you installed for leaks. All three symptoms suggest there is a big leak somewhere.

You have an exhaust gas leak somewhere hence the smell, sound and sluggishness, double check all the points you touched, if the blanking plate is not well sealed the turbo will not spin up as it should or if the leak is after the turbo the boost gets low to the inlet
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Thanks guys, spot on. The gasket was blown because I think I mounted the blanking plate on the wrong side. To be honest, only a very careful inspection in the day time would recognise which side is the flatter side and the other side is a bit of curving which supposed to be the outer side. It happened that night I was not be able to know the issue because there is no instruction or indication of which side is the inner side.

Clean the surface, fitted it back tight and it is normal again. Cheers, James.
