Td5 timing guide missing a chunk, how hard to replace?

Found a 1cm chunk from the top of the timing chain tensioner when I dropped my sump. Would like to replace them especially as I've got the engine and crank pulley off. RAVE only has instructions for doing the chain with the head off, was hoping I could just remove the timing cover. Can I do that without upsetting the head gasket?

IIRC it's enough to remove the front cover... if you found a bit in the sump replace it anyway and ASAP cos that's what can happen
