    Mileage Question

My son is looking to buy his first 4x4. This will not be a daily driver, just a car for weekend trips to the bush snow fields etc.

Budget is not too high and we have located a reasonably priced 04 Td5 D2.

This does however have 372,000 kays on the dial. It has a full service history to 288,000 and has had a reco auto at 264,000

I know this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string question" but what are your thoughts about the mileage, my main concern is how long do Td5's last before needing replacement or rebuild?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

If it has been well maintained then there is no problem with that sort of mileage. Mine has the same amount of km and is quite modified. You will have your little niggling problems but they are well documented on here. I'm hoping to get mine to 500,000km Mileage Question

Thanks sprover. I am well aware of the niggling problems as I own one myself.

My 99 D2 Td5 will clock over to 426000km on my daily commute today and the only engine work she has had is the head gasket and steel dowels...

A well maintained Discovery 2 ? ask a Land Rover repairer how many of them they get through the door

if its been well maintained they said

Ok ok sorry, dam that was funny though.
A D2 TD5 is a great truck and I have had a number of them. Everytime I drive a good example of one I remember they are good.

A lot of them are typically (outside of AULRO) just running, poorly running and owned by people with very little to no money.
Over the years its the one model that can have me doing just about a charity job just to get the dam thing running again for an owner.
Ask ANY good Land Rover repairer and they will say the same thing, Justin Cooper, Rovertech, Me... I cant think of any other good repairer
    Regards
    Daz

A lot of the issues happen around 260km. So is likely to have had the typical things like fuel pump, water pump, fuel pressure regulator, power steering pump already replaced.. Also most bearings on which belt runs. You already mentioned the auto..which is one of the big ones. It's a 2004 so shouldn't have the plastic dowel holding head in position which can cause problems in the older models. Hopefully they've been maintaining the transfer box and diff oils, not just the engine oil. Mine is only up to 290km so not sure what to expect next (after auto). Good luck, hope it works out.
